Lincoln Pet Volunteers is a dedicated community of animal lovers who share a passion for helping rescue pets find loving homes. As a volunteer-powered organization, we rely on the commitment and enthusiasm of our volunteers to support our mission.

Whether you have years of experience in pet care or are simply eager to learn, there are many ways you can get involved and make a meaningful impact.

Volunteer Opportunities

The majority of our work is fueled by volunteers who assist in various roles, from animal handling to community outreach.

At our training facility, volunteers have the unique chance to work with both rescue pets and dogs owned by community members. By helping train and care for these dogs, you indirectly support our rescue efforts. Every dog you assist helps generate funds for the medical care, training, and support of rescue animals still waiting for their forever homes.

Your time and effort go a long way in ensuring the well-being of these animals.

Dog Trainers

For those with a background in dog training, we offer paid positions as dog trainers at our facility. This role is perfect for individuals who have professional experience training dogs or equivalent hands-on experience.

As a dog trainer, you’ll work with our structured training programs designed to teach essential skills and behaviors to dogs in our care. You will also guide foster families on how to continue training at home, ensuring that our dogs are well-prepared for adoption.

Our trainers use positive reinforcement and balanced training techniques to create a supportive learning environment for both the dogs and their owners. You’ll have the chance to see the direct impact of your work as dogs develop new skills, find homes, and transition smoothly into their new families.

Regular weekday shifts are available, with options for both part-time and full-time work.

Dog Agents

Dog Agents play a crucial role in managing our dog play groups.

This position is available both as a volunteer opportunity and as a paid role for those with prior dog-handling experience. As a Dog Agent, you will oversee groups of up to 25 dogs, making sure they play safely and comfortably.

Volunteers in this role gain hands-on experience in managing large groups of dogs, which can be incredibly rewarding and is a great stepping stone for anyone considering a career in animal care.

For those with experience, the paid Dog Agent role offers a chance to turn your passion into a career. Many of our current paid Dog Agents started as volunteers and transitioned into paid roles after gaining experience and confidence in handling groups of dogs. This position also includes tasks like basic cleaning and maintenance to keep our facility safe and hygienic for all pets.

Dog Training Apprenticeship

Our Dog Training Apprenticeship program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to start a career in dog training. This free program provides comprehensive training and hands-on experience with dogs of all sizes and temperaments.

Apprentices begin by assisting with playgroups and learning the basics of dog behavior. As you progress, you will receive one-on-one training experience, preparing you to work directly with clients and their pets.

This program is ideal for those who are serious about building a career in dog training. You’ll have the chance to learn from experienced trainers, gain valuable skills in dog behavior management, and even assist in leading group classes.

Upon completion, you may qualify for a paid apprentice position, where you can continue learning while earning an income. This hands-on experience will be invaluable if you decide to pursue certification or further your career as a professional dog trainer.
