Are you considering fostering a cat or kitten? That’s fantastic! Fostering is truly the cat’s meow, and it’s one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Here at Lincoln Pet Volunteers, we urgently need more compassionate people like you to join our foster family.
Every day, we receive requests to rescue cats and kittens, and the more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save.
Common Concerns About Fostering – Debunked!
“I don’t have enough space.”
Actually, you do! Fostering doesn’t require much room at all. A small half-bath, laundry room, or even a cozy corner with a litter box, food bowls, and a comfy bed is plenty.
Some of our fosters get creative with temporary enclosures made from playpens or baby gates. And don’t worry about supplies – we’ve got you covered! We can provide everything you need, including food, litter, and toys.
Plus, your home will feel like a luxurious spa compared to where many of these cats have been before. And trust us, cats love small spaces like sinks and tiny nooks. Your home will be their favorite new hangout!
“I have a full-time job and can’t be home all day.”
No problem! While newborn kittens may need extra care, most of our foster cats, especially older kittens and adult cats, are low-maintenance. They’ll be content with a clean litter box, food, water, and a few toys while you’re at work.
Many of our current foster parents work full-time jobs outside the home, and they find it a joy to come back to a purring kitty waiting to greet them. It’s a great feeling to know you’re helping an animal in need, even when you’re away during the day.
“I can’t commit to fostering long-term.”
That’s totally okay! We welcome short-term foster parents too. Whether you have time during a holiday break or can help out for a few weeks, every bit of support helps.
You might find that fostering becomes something you love to do, and you can always adjust your commitment based on your availability. Even temporary foster homes can make a huge difference, offering a safe place for a cat until a permanent home is found. You may be surprised at how fulfilling it is, even in a short stint.
“I’d get too attached and wouldn’t want to say goodbye.”
We completely understand this concern!
Saying goodbye can be tough, but remember, your love and care give these cats a second chance at life. Fostering opens up space for us to save more animals who need help. Plus, when you see your foster cat find their forever family, it’s an incredibly heartwarming experience.
Many of our foster parents love to meet the adoptive families and share stories about their foster kitty’s personality and quirks.
And don’t worry – there’s always another kitten or cat in need, ready to fill your home and heart with love again.
